Last week I had my hands of my friends PlayStation Portable or PSP. He bought it from Dubai for a cheaper price at around 600 to 700 Dirhams or at around 7000 to 8000 in Pesos and I could say its a good deal for an entertaining gadget. He got the firmware 3.5 installed but sad to say this firmware do not play homebrew games. His stock on buying more expensive UMD for games. But good for him I was able to find in the internet a way to downgrade his firmware to play homegrew games. Downgrading is risky because this could probably brick his PSP and rendering it useless or dead. He understand the risk so we decided to downgrade his firmware from 3.5 to 1.5.

DOWNLOAD THE COMPLETE AND UPDATED PSP UPGRADING AND DOWNLOADING GUIDE HERE

So he bought a copy of Lumines from Amazon and the followed the simple guide from internet. Fortunately it was a lucky day for us because we successfully downgraded the firmware to 1.5. If anyone of you here are thinking to downgrade please do it with your own risk. My friend and I understands the risk. Remember downgrading your PSP firmware could brick it and render it useless. However there is a way of reviving it but this is very costly. Good Luck!!

IMPORTANT:

If you have a TA082+ motherboard and you downgrade to 1.50, currently you will be unable to upgrade to 3.30+ Sony firmware. This is due to Sony blocking updates when the PSP has been modified to run 1.50. There will be an application released later which will allow users to revert the changes. If youare using a TA082 motherboard then I would suggest just using 1.50 or OE until an application is released.

Troubleshooting

If when trying to restore the network config using netconf backup you find that it gives you an error on the downgraded 1.50 PSP, try adding a temporary network config, then deleting it and run the netconf backup again.

How to download 3.4oe to 1.5 firmware

Dowgrading from your PSP firmware 3.4 oe to 1.5 firmware requires you to download the recovery file. You can get it from this link RECOVERY.

Once you have downloaded this file you will have to extract it because the file is compressed as winrar. You can get free winrar. Just type in Google Search winrar.

After you extracted the folder, place it to your GAME folder and that is PSP/GAME. The folder contains the following files

  • decryptprx.prx
  • eboot.pbp
  • extprxs.pbp
  • ipl_update.prx
  • lflash_fatfmt.prx
  • libpsardumper.prx
  • update.pbp

Afterwards boot your PSP into recovery mode and choose the path to Run Program PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP

Once you done that just follow the onscreen instructions and then your done.

Good Luck...
