I know many of you rely most of their work with the computer, who wouldn't? this is the new age where most work are done by computers. So what happens if something is wrong with it? This means no chatting, no business, no hubbing and more.. Aren't you gonna do anything? Or try this guide to solve it.

On my experience on troubleshooting computers, the most common problem I've encountered is "Can't continue to load windows" or some say "Can't boot up". It shows you that Windows XP progress bar is working but suddenly it restarts and takes you back to POST mode. These happens repeatedly eventhough you choose to start windows normally or start windows on safemode. Most of the time these problem occurs when there is a sudden loss of power (ex. brownouts, power unplug) while working on windows and sometimes improper shutdown after using.

If you encountered this scenario then you may want to try these simple instruction and guide on how to fix it. All you need is your Windows XP installer disk and a working CD-ROM. I will try my best here to illustrate to you the step by step procedure on how to go about it. So lets get started....

So lets try this one out!!!

  • Turn On your computer and continually press DEL button to enter BIOS Setup. In case the DEL button does not work, press one of these keys F1, F2, F10 because some computers such as DELL, HP or Compaq use these to access the BIOS. (You may also see it while in POST MODE)

POST MODE SCREENSHOT - PRESS DEL - CHECK YOUR BIOS
  • Within the BIOS go to Advanced Features Settings and look for First Boot and make sure to choose CD-ROM. Selecting the CD-ROM to first boot will allow the operationg system to boot from your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM. Just in case your BIOS is different from the illustration you see below, you may want to look around and find Boot Sequence or something similar, just make sure to make first boot on CD-ROM/DVD-ROM.

  • If you have setup the BIOS correctly to boot on CD-ROM then we will now save the settings and exit. Press ESC key then F10 or select "Save settings and Exit" then hit Enter.

  • Next insert Windows XP installer disk into your CD/DVD Drive and watch closely to your screen as you will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD-ROM. Or you may press any keys before it shows up.

Press Any Key To Boot From CDROM
  • It will now inspects, detect devices and load files on your, these would probably take 5 mins to finish.
  • You will have 3 choices to select and pressing 'R' for Recovery Console is what we should select. Now hit 'R' key.

  • Press and enter key 1 then provide the administrator password.

  • On the command prompt, type the following commands CHKDSK C: /P then hit ENTER key.
  • It will now start checking the disk for consistency and will try to recover and correct any errors on its directories. It will also check if there are bad sectors on the drive.
  • After recovery is complete, repeat CHKDSKC: /P command for the last time then type EXIT command afterwards to exit recovery console.
  • Now Remove Windows XP Installer from your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM. These should now continue to boot to Windows by selecting Start Windows Normally.

what would i do if the computer does not recognized the administrator password?

Thank you,

babybrownfox profile image

babybrownfox Hub Author 3 years ago

In your case, you have to use a special password remover disc which you not find easily. A friend of mine sells this kind of disc and I did get one from him. I tried it and works perfectly in removing administrator password.

Since you don't have that disc you have no other option but to reformat and install fresh windows on it.

@jhunskie

There are some situations that this may not work due window files or folders that are missing or infected by computer virus. If this is the case you should try reinstalling your windows XP using the same service pack that was currently installed.

Please do not try to reinstall windows xp if you do not know how because you might accidentally reformat the entire disk. Google through to know more about reinstalling windows xp. But If you think you're knowledgeable enough please do this with your own risk.

Have a great day!

Hey,

I've tried each and all of your steps and yet i'll still faced with the same problem.

Is there something wrong with my computer ?

@Mason

Try reinstalling your Operating System. Use your windows xp cd to do this but make sure you know how to reinstall windows or else you might accidentally reformat your drive and you will lose all your files. Do this with your own risk.

I may soon create hub on how to reinstall windows so please subscribe and get updated.

hi! every time i play a online games my pc turn to hang and after that turn to blue screen..... please help me what will i do to fix this problem. thanks!

babybrownfox Hub Author 20 months ago

Hi Rusley,

Blue screen could be a serious problem to your computer. If you don't have any technical experience on troubleshooting, please try to leave it with the experts.

However many blue screen occurs when there's hardware malfunctioning and most of the time because of RAM(memory) defect or the motherboard. Swapping parts to identify the problem will be the basic things you can do but like I said you can let the experts handle it before messing up the entire computer.

Good Luck..

Liam 19 months ago

When I press 'R' to repair it, it flicks to a blue screen saying "A problem has been detected...". Not sure what to do :(
